Types of Internet Access
Accessing the internet requires a device and an access account. The types of devices which can access the internet is growing every day. There is also an explosion in the amount of applications that are now “web-enabled” to at least some degree. Wireless and handheld devices are accessing the internet in huge numbers daily, so the revolution of information technology is upon us. There’s a lot to be concerned with nowadays when looking for an internet service provider. You first need to decide what type of connection you want, and how much you’re willing to pay for it. Depending on your requirements, and how many features you want, you’ll eventually find just the perfect access plan.
Cable Internet Access
Cable can be used to access and connect to the Internet. It is used for high-speed Internet access. It is “always on”, and is generally for home usage rather than for business purposes. A cable Internet connection is much faster than any type of dial-up connection. However, at this current time, using cable for business applications is not as advantageous as using some of the other technologies. You cannot connect a network to the Internet with cable. Cable modems are not distance sensitive, like their DSL counterparts, so your connection will be optimal no matter where you are located. They do not require much installation, unlike satellite and they provide an “always on” connection, so you never have to dial up and wait around.
Wireless connections
Wi-Fi provides wireless access to computer networks, and therefore can do so to the Internet itself. Hotspots providing such access include Wi-Fi-cafes, where a would-be user needs to bring their own wireless-enabled devices such as a laptop or PDA. These services may be free to all, free to customers only, or fee-based. A hotspot need not be limited to a confined location. The whole campus or park, or even the entire city can be enabled. Grassroots efforts have led to wireless community networks. Right now telephone companies, most notably Verizon, are rolling out Fiber Optic cable connections which offer 30mbps connections for under $50 per month. This is a truly incredible combination of features and options which promises to obsolete the various current high-speed connections mentioned above.
